Who writes this

Coble and Cliff is a journal about the North Yorkshire coast and the moors behind it. A Yorkshire coble is the flat-bottomed fishing boat that has been launched off the beaches here for a few hundred years, which seemed a reasonable thing to name it after.

It is written by Ruth Ardsley, who has lived between Scarborough and the moors for most of two decades and walks a good deal of what appears here.

What this is not

It is not a listings site and it does not try to be complete. There are places on this coast we have never written about because we have nothing useful to say about them.

Nothing here is paid for and nobody has given us anything. Where we mention a business it is because we go there.

Corrections

Opening hours change, places close, and the tide tables in particular are worth checking against something official rather than against us. If something here is wrong, say so and it gets fixed.
