Two nights in the Lakes without the crowds
Go in November and come in from the wrong side.

The Lakes have a reputation for being full and it is entirely deserved between May and September on the western side. The rest of the year, and the rest of the map, is a different place.
Which side
Come in from the east. The valleys on that flank are quieter, the roads are better, and you are an hour closer to Yorkshire anyway.
When
November. It rains, which it also does in July, and everything is half empty. Book somewhere with a fire.
Two nights is enough
It is a long weekend, not a week. Two nights and one proper walk is the right shape for it, and you come home before it starts feeling like an expedition.
